7 Container Ships Handle Cargo at Tan Cang - Cat Lai Port on New Year's Eve

On the night of New Year's Eve of the Lunar New Year 2025, Tan Cang - Cat Lai Port welcomed 7 container ships handling cargo, with a total throughput of nearly 140,000 tons. In the first week of the Lunar New Year, the port is expected to receive 76 cargo ships, with a throughput of more than 1.5 million tons of goods.
On the evening of January 28 (29th of Tet), the Saigon Newport Corporation and the Navy organized a New Year's Eve celebration and issued the first command to handle cargo of the year at Tan Cang - Cat Lai Port.
Colonel Ngo Minh Thuan, General Director of Saigon Newport Corporation, said that to serve production activities during Tet, Tan Cang - Cat Lai Port has arranged more than 1,100 workers per shift to directly manage, operate, and serve.
According to Mr. Thuan, in the first week of the Lunar New Year, the port received 76 cargo ships, with a throughput of more than 1.5 million tons of goods. On New Year's Eve alone, the port welcomed 7 container ships handling nearly 140,000 tons of cargo.

The first container after issuing the command was loaded onto the CNC CHEETAH ship of the CMA-CGM shipping line with a capacity of 39,000 tons, carrying nearly 2,900 TEUs from Cat Lai (Vietnam) to Shekou, Dalian, Ningbo (China) - it is electronic goods. This key commodity last year contributed to Ho Chi Minh City's export value reaching over $46 billion.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Phan Van Mai, emphasized that the success of Ho Chi Minh City is closely linked to significant contributions from key businesses, notably Saigon Newport Corporation. Over the past period, the Corporation has continuously innovated, developed, and played an important role in ensuring the smooth flow of the supply chain, connecting Vietnam with the international market.

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Phan Van Mai, hopes that Saigon Newport Corporation will continue to organize effective and safe business operations; take the lead in digital transformation in all fields; and continue to affirm the leading brand of the seaport business in the domestic and international markets.
In 2024, Saigon Newport Corporation completed its business production plan 40 days ahead of schedule, with a total container throughput of nearly 160 million tons of goods; total revenue reached 32,000 billion VND (up 15.6%); total profit nearly 7,000 billion VND (up 32.5%); and contributed 2,672 billion VND to the state budget (up 28%). The market share of export-import container exploitation through the Corporation's ports reached 55.2% nationwide. In 2025, the unit continues to maintain its growth momentum and strong breakthrough. At the same time, it continues to implement three traditional business pillars: port exploitation, logistics transport services, and marine economy industries; and develops two new business pillars: investment, industrial park business, and island tourism services, and offshore renewable energy development.
