Leading Global Transportation Corporation FedEx Plans to Expand Operations in Vietnam

Frederick W. Smith, Executive Chairman of FedEx Corporation, expressed his desire to continue operations at Vietnam's two largest airports while exploring expansion to Long Thành and Gia Bình airports.

The founder and executive chairman of FedEx Corporation expressed these wishes during a meeting with General Secretary Tô Lâm on the afternoon of February 25 in Hanoi, according to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, the General Secretary congratulated FedEx Corporation on its remarkable development, becoming one of the world's leading transportation corporations and playing an important role in the global supply chain.

Appreciating the corporation's achievements during its 30 years of operation in Vietnam, he also thanked Mr. Smith for his personal contributions to Vietnam's socio-economic development.

General Secretary Tô Lâm shared that Vietnam is promoting three strategic breakthroughs, including infrastructure development.

He affirmed his support for FedEx to continue expanding its operations in Vietnam in areas of strength such as infrastructure, services, and transportation. This would contribute to the global supply chain and make Vietnam an important hub in the international logistics network.

Noting that 2025 is a crucial year for Vietnam to prepare for a breakthrough development phase, the General Secretary expressed his hope that FedEx would prioritize the Vietnamese market, while Vietnam would prioritize long-term partners like FedEx.

He also suggested that FedEx closely cooperate with relevant Vietnamese agencies to quickly and effectively implement plans to expand business operations in Vietnam.

For his part, Mr. Smith expressed his emotions upon returning and witnessing the development and vitality of Vietnam and its people, affirming that FedEx Corporation is proud to have contributed to Vietnam's development over the past three decades.

He was particularly impressed by Vietnam's development achievements, especially in infrastructure, as well as its favorable geographical location. These are important factors that will help Vietnam become a dynamic economic center in the region.

Believing that Vietnam has all the factors to become an important logistics hub in the region and the world, the head of FedEx Corporation expressed his desire to further expand operations in Vietnam.

This includes continuing to develop operations at Tân Sơn Nhất and Nội Bài airports, as well as exploring expansion to Long Thành and Gia Bình airports in the near future, thereby supporting Vietnam's economy in enhancing transportation capacity and connecting with the global supply chain.

FedEx Aims for 94% Cure Rate for Pediatric Patients in Vietnam

Also at the meeting, on the occasion of Vietnamese Doctors' Day on February 27, General Secretary Tô Lâm expressed his gratitude for FedEx Corporation's support in implementing programs to assist and treat many heart and eye patients in Vietnam over the years.

In particular, the General Secretary highly appreciated FedEx Corporation's sponsorship of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in cooperation with the National Cancer Hospital and pediatric hospitals in treating pediatric cancer patients over the years.

The General Secretary expressed his hope that FedEx Corporation and the hospital, with their strengths in pediatric cancer treatment, would continue to expand this very practical cooperation, especially in helping Vietnamese hospitals develop pediatric cancer treatment specialties.

In response, Mr. Smith said that FedEx Corporation always wants to contribute to Vietnam's socio-economic development and is honored to be a bridge to promote and elevate cooperation between St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Vietnamese hospitals.

He affirmed that upon returning to the United States, he would immediately discuss with the leadership of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to plan specific support, aiming to raise the cure rate for pediatric patients in Vietnam to 94%, similar to the rate in the United States.
